Management Clinical Full Time (80) , Days , 8:00-5:00 Posted
02/10/2021 Job Profile Summary Manages and is responsible for all
aspects of Laboratory services at Cleveland Clinic Hospital. This
includes but is not limited to, all professional and technical
aspects of departmental operations. These operations include but
are not limited to General Lab, Chemistry, Hematology,
Immunohematology, Microbiology, Serology, Blood Bank,
Cytopathology, and Anatomic Pathology. Plans, organizes and
coordinates all aspects of Laboratory services. To accomplish this,
the director uses established standards of care set forth by
professional organizations including CAP and JCAHO. Assures that
the policies and procedures of the department reflect the
guidelines and expected standards as set by those regulatory
agencies. Job Description Responsibilities:
Selects, trains, orients and assigns department staff.
Establishes a time schedule for in-services education and training
and objectives to be taught.
Interviews and evaluates the skills of candidates.
Develops department goals and objectives and establishes and
implements policies and
procedures for department operation.
Provides direction to all department employees in a manner
commensurate with the overall
philosophy of the hospital.
Develops, implements and enforces department policies and
procedures.
Develops and recommends department operating budget and ensures
that department
operates within budget.
Directs the preparation and maintenance of department records and
reports.
Reviews revenue reports on a monthly basis.
Promotes quality laboratory care to inpatients and outpatients by
introducing and upgrading
clinical services.
Supervises, and is responsible for, the clinical activities of the
med techs processors.
Coordinates and supervises all activities in the hospital
laboratory including purchasing,
receiving, storing, compounding and techs.
Supervises inventory control to meet patient needs and the
maintenance of patient records
and files.
Recommends a sufficient number of qualified and competent personnel
to provide safe care
and services, and meets standards that comply with regulations from
regulatory agencies and JCAHO, OSHA, HRS.
Maintains department facilities, equipment and materials in a
condition to promote efficiency,
health, comfort and safety of patients and staff.
Recommends space and other resources needed by the department or
service. Demonstrates the ability to adapt to varied age-specific
patient populations.
Clinical - Adult (18-65 years): modifies the interview techniques,
identifies psychological,
physical and educational needs common to the adult patient;
recognizes patients' needs to
assert independence and reluctance to express dependency needs and
anxiety about
hospitalization.
Geriatric (65 years and older): identifies increased
physician/emotional dependency needs
and availability of support networks; identifies increased
sensitivity to climate changes;
assesses potential for increased educational needs due to
compromised abilities to comply
with instructions; explains in easily understood terms all aspects
with regard to releases/consent. Supervises department functions
and promotes hospital wide leadership image.
Ensures all new employees attend orientation on their first day of
work.
Monitors the competency levels of employees and provides staff
development through
education.
Conducts monthly staff meetings (CRAE format) and keeps minutes and
attendance logs on
file.
Submits completed employee performance reviews to H.R. in a timely
manner.
Notifies supervisor and Human Resources of all disciplinary
action.
Documents all disciplinary action and submits originals to H.R.
while keeping copies in
departmental file. Attends unemployment hearings and testifies in
court as required.
Completes personnel change notice forms completely for employee
changes with appropriate
approvals.
Creates and updates job descriptions for departmental
positions.
Communicates and monitors the compliance of all hospital and
departmental policies and
procedure to each employee within their sector.
Complies with all policies and procedures that pertain to HIPAA,
including the minimum
necessary requirements for this job position.
Limits the PHI disclosed or requested to the amount reasonably
necessary to achieve the
purpose of the request.
Other duties as assigned. Education:
Education: B.S. in medical technology, physical or biological
science required. Certifications:
Florida License as a General Lab, Chemistry, Hematology,
Immunohematology, Microbiology,
Serology, Blood Bank, Cytopathology, or Anatomic Pathology
supervisor.
Florida State Licensure in all Disciplines. National license
American Society for Clinical
Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent.
