MINIMUM TRAINING & EXPERIENCE
The City of Palm Bay is accepting applications for State of
Florida Certified Firefighter/EMT or Firefighter/Paramedicto
establish an eligibility list to be used in order to fill
Firefighter vacancies. The first 100 fully qualified candidates
with complete application packetswill be accepted for the testing
process. A complete application package includes the following:
* City of Palm Bay online Employment Application (required) *
State of Florida Certificate of Compliance or Certification of
Completion per Florida Statute 633.35(required) * State of Florida
Department of Health EMT or Paramedic License (required) * Current
ACLS Certification for Paramedics, or a BLS Certification for EMTs,
from a Florida Division of EMS approved provider (required) * DD
Form 214(if applicable) * Copy of College degree or transcript (if
Certifications should be attached electronically.
Please do not provide any additional documentation at this time;
do not attach anything other than the items listed above.As you
move forward in the process, we may add additional items to your
application package for review.
National Registry certifications are not accepted. You must
provide State of Florida documentation.
Special Consideration to test with Palm Bay Fire Rescue -If your
graduation date or your State Certification Test was delayed by the
COVID-19 pandemic, Palm Bay Fire Rescue is granting a one-time
exemption for you to take the new hire written and physical ability
No consideration will be given for lack of knowledge or skills
during this test. All candidates will be ranked according to their
scores; however, no job offer will be made to any candidate without
having first obtained the required State of Florida
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Applicant must be at least 18 years of age
with a High School Diploma or equivalent. Must be a U.S. Citizen or
legal resident alien (birth certificate or green card). Must hold a
valid State of Florida Firefighter Certificate of Compliance or
Certification of Completion as a Firefighter. Must be a State of
Florida certified EMT or Paramedic. Must possess a current ACLS
certification for paramedics, or a BLS certification for EMTs, from
a Florida Division of EMS approved provider.Must pass a
comprehensive background investigation, which includes but is not
limited to: satisfactory employment history; driving record;
national fingerprint check (not have been convicted of a felony or
misdemeanor involving moral turpitude, as defined by law, or be in
compliance with Florida State Statute 112.011(2)(b)., history
subject to review); Have good moral character as determined by
investigation; Meet the medical requirements as outlined in NFPA
standard 1001 & 1582.
NOTE: Florida Statute 633.34(6) requires Firefighters to be
nonusers of tobacco and tobacco products for one (1) year
immediately preceding application. Palm Bay Fire Rescue Department
has a Tobacco-Free policy which requires that you must meet the
statute requirement and remain tobacco free during your employment
with PBFR. Nicotine tests are part of the Firefighter
1. Written Examination: Will be held on Thursday, July 8, 2021.
Specific times will be announced once the number of candidates is
determined. This is the only test date for this portion of the
process. The written exam is an entry level examination that is
designed to measurecognitiveability,situationalawareness, and
Applicants are required to successfully pass the validated
written exam to continue in the process.
2. MEGA Codes and Physical Ability: Friday, July 16th or Monday,
July 19th, 2021. These are is the only test date for this portion
of the process. Candidates invited will be notified of which day
they are expected to attend.
Must pass the EMT or Paramedic MEGA Codes (dependent upon
certification) and Physical Ability to continue in the process.
3. Panel Interview: Upon successful completion of steps 1 and 2,
the top 30 candidates will be invited to a panel interview. Dates
for the panel interviews are to be determined.
Candidates who successfully complete the written examination,
MEGA Codes, Physical Ability and the panel interview will be ranked
by total score to create an eligibility list. Veteran's preference
points will be added in accordance with Florida State Statute.
Additional points may also be added for local preference.
Upon completion of acomprehensive background check, and receipt
of a Conditional Offer of Employment, the candidate will then be
required to submit to a polygraph examination, psychological
evaluation, drug screen, and medical examination.
Note 1: Prior to attending the panel interview, those invited to
interview must provide an official Driving Record (complete driving
history) from the Florida Department of Motor Vehicles and Highway

Note 2:If selected for hire, prior to employment, the candidate
must possess a Florida approved 16-hour Emergency Vehicle
Operator's Course (EVOC) certificate.
