The Medical Assistant works closely with Provider in all aspects of the medical practice. They provide clinical expertise to ensure all patients receive high quality, efficient care. Medical Assistants are responsible for performing a variety of clinical functions such as preparing specimens, assisting during medical procedures, and patient education. They are also accountable for administrative tasks and can proficiently utilize EMR software to scribe documentation and enter billing information into patient records.ValuesAdheres to the Water's Edge Mission Statement, Credo, Service Goals and Values providing exceptional customer service at all times.Dependable - shows up on-time for shift and covers all shifts assignedPeople-orientated -can work in a team environment, maintaining professional relationships with patients, providers, supervisors, and co-workers (across different departments)Adaptable-can perform work that requires shift of prioritiesDetailed-oriented - completes work accurately and timelyAchievement- oriented-welcomes challenges and is open to learningTransparency - open and honest when concerns or patient variances arise and reports variances directly to supervisorEssential FunctionsClinical SkillsGeneral DermatologyGreets patient and escorts them to exam room; obtains and documents in EMR accurate patient history including skin history and past medical history, current medications/allergies, and identifies chief complaint of patient's visit with history of present illness.Assists provider in skin biopsy procedures: instrument set up with local anesthesia, photos of anatomical location in EMR, labels specimen bottle(s) properly and prepares biopsy requisition to send specimens to lab based on patient's insurance.Assists provider in other dermatologic procedures including but not limited to: I&D's, IL Kenalog injections, LN2, chemical peels and KOH/Scabies testingAdministration of local anesthesia, intramuscular Kenalog injections and subQ biologic in-office injectionsPerforms Photodynamic Therapy and Patch Testing for patientsCognizant of patient's past medical history conditions, allergies and medications contraindications to procedures/medications being performed/prescribedVein DermatologyPrepares and assists provider with treating varicose veinsPrepares and assists provider in laser and other various proceduresKeeps up to date on new services offeredAssists provider in consultations and is well-versed with indications, risks/benefits, and costScribeUnderstands principles of medical documentation including diagnoses, treatment plans, and medicationsUnderstands fundamentals of coding and billingEfficiently utilizes EMR software to accurately capture the patient's encounter , not limited to:Diagnosis (ICD10 codes)Treatment performed today and plan of careMedications and electronically submits (per providers instructions) to pharmacy and includes in patient's recordCPT codes/chargesCompletes orders for blood work, PDT, treatment to be scheduled (preoperative checklist), or Patch TestingIndicates follow up visit before patient is dischargedMaintains/updates patient's biopsy log including annotating treatment/date performedCompletes patient specimen requirements by end of day for courier pick-upResponsible for timely management of charting and completes all patient notes by end of dayWhen required, accountable for correcting and creating addendum of medical record documentation if missing/insufficientTravelTravels between Water's Edge practice locations is expected for this position.Required Education and ExperienceHigh School diploma or equivalentAt least (1) year of MA or Surgical Tech experience in physicians' office with recent proven technical and clinical skillsPreferred Education and ExperienceMA Certification, CAN, CDT, LPN, RNDermatology ExperienceExperience treating Varicose Veins is strongly preferred
