Job Description:

BASIC FUNCTION:Under the direction of the supervisor, assist in managing daily department operations. Perform routine and complex sleep studies. Adjusts CPAP and BIPAP and monitors patients overnight. Manages activities in the Sleep Disorder Center in the absence of the supervisor. Scores complex sleep studies and reviews studies scored by other techs.SUPERVISORY ACCOUNTABILITY: NoneNATURE AND SCOPE:This position interacts with the sleep disorder staff, patients and families, physicians, and nursing staff.PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:Supports the mission, vision and values of the hospital.Responsible for working in a safe and protective manner at all times, keeping in mind that safety and environmental hazards are the responsibility of all employees for themselves, other staff members and patients.Perform standard and complex sleep recordings.Scores routine and complex sleep studies.Assists and directs other Sleep Disorder Center personnel as needed.Directs related clerical activity.Assist in educational programs directed to medical staff, nursing and community groups.Assist the supervisor with department planning and budgeting.Helps plan schedules assigning priorities according to work load and clinical urgency.Performs difficult or unusual recording procedures in accordance with the policy and procedure manual.Reviews daily work with staff and suggests technical changes and clinical correlation.Attends professional meetings and seminars.Conducts routine maintenance on all Sleep Disorder Center equipment.Assures that all required paperwork is obtained prior to the patient's admission to the Sleep Disorder Center.Enhance abnormalities with special montages, adding electrodes or changing standard settings.Recognize artifacts and either eliminate or monitor them.Observe and note any clinical changes seen in the patient and select montages to investigate possible changes.Performs MSLT studies.Performs and scores complex and routine sleep studies and adjusts CPAP/BIPAP as needed.Has a clear understanding of all tests performed in the Sleep Disorder Center, including clinical utilities interpretation of results and interfering drugs.Contributes to the maintenance of department records, billing and patient records.Maintains adequate inventory of supplies.Keeps current with new procedures and techniques. Continues education by reading journals, attending seminars, conferences, etc.Performs and assumes personal responsibility for related duties as required and/or assigned.Attends in-services and is compliant with essential education without prompting from manager.Communicates in a positive manner with the supervisor, medical director and interpreting physicians' issues of patient care, planning, budgeting and staff.Maintains the Sleep Disorder Center during the supervisor's absence and works well with the department head.CORE COMPETENCIES:Provides a safe, efficient, effective and supportive environment for the endoscopy patient.Recognizes the importance of teamwork, consideration and cooperation.Functions efficiently and in a professional manner in all aspects of care, during both routine and special duties and procedures.Demonstrates initiative in expanding knowledge of new endoscopic procedures and subjects relating to special procedures and to the endoscopic patient.Recognizes legal and policy limits of individual responsibility.Relates sleep lab services to the total hospital environment.Assists in maintaining sleep lab equipment.Demonstrates knowledge of the step-to-step progress of specific sleep study procedures.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:Associate's Degree or hourly certificate from an accredited program preferred.Registration by the Board Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT) as an Encepholographic Technologist by (ABRET as R. EEGT), or Registered/Certified Respiratory Therapist with Sleep Designation (RRT-SDS or CRT-SDS by CoARC).Current BLS Certification required from American Heart Association or American Red Cross.Minimum or one (1) year clinical experience preferred plus required internship per registry board.CCIRH IS A DRUG AND NICOTINE FREE WORKPLACE
